Product DescriptionThe loss of a loved one is never easy and memories often make the holiday season especially difficult. Addie (Lisa Lucas) lost her mother when she was very young and, while she sometimes yearns for her mother, she is a happy well-adjusted ten-year old who wants nothing more than to have a Christmas tree in the living room. Addie's father (Jason Robards) absolutely refuses to have a Christmas tree in the house, but offers no explanation for his stubborn resolve which leads Addie to question his motives and his love for her. It falls to Addie's Grandmother (Mildred Natwick) to explain that her father is still immersed in grief over the loss of his wife and that the memories of Christmases past are simply too painful for him to endure. When Addie wins a tree at school, her father is enraged by both the presence of the tree in his home and the idea of his family accepting charity. Only by opening a line of communication and sharing their feelings and memories with one another can Addie and her father reconcile their differences and begin to understand one another. Set in 1964, this 1972 made-for-television special feels like a stage play with sets and scenery that evoke the essence of an age-gone-by. The message, of course, is timeless. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami HoriuchiProduct FeaturesCustomer ReviewsRated I can't imagine celebrating the Christmas season without this video. I saw the premiere as a child, and I am thrilled to own it as an adult. It provides a glimpse into a bygone era of after-war families and their reflections of the Great Depression. It also provides for me memories of actually having a Christmas program featuring a nativity in a public school system. I relate to so much about "The House without a Christmas Tree," most especially a father who shows ambivalence toward his daughter. This film is a jewel. Rated Another blast from my past and identifying with a not-well liked young girl who just wanted a Christmas tree, a time when things were held close to the heart, you cherished the little you had, the true friends you had. Great movie for family lessons. Rated I asked for this for Christmas because I remembered watching it with my parents on tv as a kid. This movie isnt on tv anymore. Its not a high quality movie compared to today's standards but it is a really good story with a nice lesson. Rated Oh what memories! Rated G. This was originaly aired on television at Christmastime back in the early 70's. We watched it every year. It was videotaped similar to all those shows on CBS like All in the Family, Maude, and the Jeffersons. Very dark set lighting and cheesy innocence of the 70's. If you can get past that, the story is very endearing, kinda sad, but has a happy ending with the sterotypical lessons learned. Good for the entire family Rated It's a pretty good Christmas movie. More about good motives etc. and the tugging of the heart, which is certainly part of Christmas. I would always prefer more about Jesus in Christmas. After all it is His birthday. But the movie is great entertainment and is inspiring. Similar Products
