on 2010-09-08I bought this item and I have already returned it so thought I might help you not waste your $$$$. When I ordered it the delivery was perfect and exactly as expected. As soon as I unpackaged the ice shaver I saw the cutting blades are PLASTIC and not able to deal with any ice cube or piece of ice cube I tried. When my husband tried to operate it the ice shaved so slow it allowed the shavings to melt before there was enough ice shavings for even one drink. On top of everything it is SO NOISY we could not hear each other while we were next to the machine while it struggled to operate. The return was without any problem and I will continue to shop at Amazon any time I can but this product is nothing like the promises made by the manufacturer.

on 2010-09-07Bought this for a BBQ party. Wasn't sure this would keep up with the amount of people who attended, but it did. A full mixing bowl made enough shaved ice for 3 small bowls. It is safe and easy enough that my little 10 year old cousin ended up being our slushie/snow cone maker. It was such a hit, 2 relatives just asked if they can borrow it for their upcoming parties.

on 2010-09-03I bought this after a co-worker dropped a couple of hundred dollars on a margarita maker and I knew I wanted something...but not at those prices!
So, went to Amazon.com and found this for under $30 with free shipping. Read the reviews and I was sold. Ordered and got it a few days later.
Out of the box, rinsed and on the counter. In a few minutes, we were enjoying sno-cones! My 7 y/o son is hooked! It may be a little loud, but it is shaving ice! The sno-cone setting is perfect for those icey treats.
Used the slushie setting with the stirring arm and pre-made margarita mix and it made great drinks. If you are looking for slushies like those from the local convenient store, you may be a tad disappointed since the slushie ice on this machine is a little courser. But, those commerical slushe machines infuse A LOT of air into the mix, making it more frothy..when you make slushies at home, it's all ice and your ingredients - so they last longer, stay colder and aren't filed with unknown chemicals.
I highly recommend this machine to anyone looking for a sensible alternative to those expensive drink makers. Plus, it's the size of coffee maker and stores easily in your cabinets when you're not using it.

on 2010-08-31This shaver is nice and I love it. Although, I wish it could make the ice more fine. Currently the ice shards are about medium sized, which isn't bad but a bit smaller and it would be amazing. I would buy this again no problem. I mainly use it to make drinks for myself and company.
