on 2010-05-17I bought this for my daughter, who is a skillful cook. She uses European saucepans, so I was pleased to see that on the maker's web site this is described as a 20 cm. pan - i.e. metric. Its curved base looked like a good idea, and Cuisinart pans are generally well made.
It proved to be useless on my daughter's metric pans, and I suspect on imperial ones as well, because it has so little depth of entry into the pan which contains the water, and its handle is so heavy, that it must be held at all times to prevent it falling over. Maybe it is a tight enough fit to work on some kinds of pan, but then I'd fear it would jam on as it expanded whilst heating up. Whatever, I would not advise you to buy this without seeing it and verifying that it will work with the pan you intend to use it with.
Bear in mind also that this is a commercial-sized pan. Dinner parties of fewer than ten would be better provided for by a smaller pan!
The quality of material looked high, the handle was nice and solid to hold, the lid was well made. But the overall design of the pan itself is faulty.

on 2009-04-07Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Universal Double Boiler with Cover
My wife just loves this Universal Double Boiler, most of all the way it is what I call stepped down in the bottom. This makes it versical where you can us it in more than one pan.
This complement the cuisinart 17 piece set of stainless steel cookware that we purchased earlier this year. I have rated this a five star, if I could I would give it more stars; not just the Double Boiler, but the entire set.
We have switched from another popular brand of cookware to the cuisinart most of all because it is dish washer proof and the finish does not come off like some of the popular coated cookware does.

on 2009-02-16I used this right away to heat some cheez whiz for Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches, worked like a charm! This is an excellent value ~ you can't go wrong with Cuisinart! This is very well made, the quality is evident!

on 2009-02-05My usual 2 quart double boiler was just too small for making 2 quarts of yogurt. There was a little head room, but not much. The Cuisinart double boiler was the only large size that I could find. The curved bottom is nice for using a whisk in the pan, but the only drawback is that it rocks trying to set it on a counter. Not a good idea. So, I just set it in the sink drain when I need to set it down not in the lower pot. Great product.

on 2009-02-03Nice insert that fits all size pots. Great for reheating mashed potatoes without burning or drying out. Also not heavy so it doesn`t add too much weight to my pot rack.
